Geograph - photograph every grid square

Many images here are lakes described as 'gravel pits' they have, as with Thorpe Park, been lakes alone for between 20 and 50 years and most, similarly, have found new primary use as not just wildlife reserves but also fishing centres, particularly Halliford Mere. They are lakes. No active gravel workings are on in Shepperton any longer.

Just as Wraysbury and Thorpe now have lakes, so I would ask people to acknowledge carefully these are not industrial-connoting 'gravel pits', if you still consider them gravel pits then perhaps you could contact the authorities locally and have them further beautified but they were deliberately left in a fit state for lake use, keeping drainage to a certain level from what I understand. Agreed they can however kill if reeds as a great-uncle of mine died in such an incident locally in Ashford however I believe the more people respect them as lakes the more they can live in harmony with the status quo - we do not live in an industrial landscape around here.
