Connel Bridge and the Falls of Lora
Connel Bridge and the Falls of Lora
When built in 1903, this cantilever rail bridge was exceeded in span in the UK only by the Forth Rail Bridge. The bridge was converted to dual rail/road use in 1913 and then the rail line was closed in 1966; currently road users have total use (single track governed by traffic lights). The tidal race it spans, the Falls of Lora, are in fine form here at near low tide as Loch Etive empties through the narrow gap spanned by the bridge.
