Black & Lizars, Belfast (December 2014)
The Belfast branch of an optician and camera shop Link
based in Scotland. It has been in the same premises, on the Wellington Place side of the Scottish Provident, since the early 20th century. The 1908 street directory shows it as “Lizars, J., optician, dealer in photographic apparatus. Telephone No. 1028; Telegraphic address, "Lizars"”. See also NS7993 : Black & Lizars, Stirling. The photograph appears as a matter of record only. I have no connection with the business. Continue to J3374 : Black & Lizars, Belfast (December 2017).
The Scottish Provident Building, Belfast
The Scottish Provident Building was built between 1897 and 1902. A triumphant finale to the Victorian era it announces its greatness over more than half of Donegall Square West. It is so rich in architectural detail that it would warrant its own book. This is a collection of photographs mainly showing the extravagant detail present in the building.
