Rabbitneuk Quarries
A little further down the slope (to the north) are the main pits, which are fairly deep: NS4860 : Rabbitneuk Quarries. However, above them are several areas of much shallower quarrying, such as the one shown in the present picture: just ahead, the ground falls away, though only by a couple of feet, along the line of an exposed rock face.

Rabbitneuk Quarries
These sandstone quarries are marked on the first-edition OS map (surveyed in 1858), but they had fallen into disuse by 1914. They took their name from Rabbitneuk, a house that was at NS48116082; the building was shown on maps from 1858 up to at least 1940, but it has been gone for several decades.
