taken 10 years ago, near to Newburn, Newcastle Upon Tyne, England

Across the Tyne to Newburn
Across the Tyne to Newburn
View across the River Tyne from the Ryton bank. The slipways of the Tyne Rowing Club reflect as chevrons in the still water at low tide, a single rowing boat being prepared for action NZ1665 : Tyne Rowing Club, Newburn Riverside. Newburn church spire can be seen through the trees standing high above the old village and the building of the former Station Hotel. During the Battle of Newburn Ford in 1640, the Scots used the height of the tower to mount a cannon used against the English on the south bank NZ1665 : Monument commemorating the Battle of Newburn Ford. The Boathouse pub is on the right, in past times it found itself located too close to the riverbank and regularly flooded NZ1665 : The Boathouse Pub, Water Row, Newburn.
