The lodge is an annexe to the main hotel, a little way to the west. The building was originally the station master's house, ticket office and waiting room of Penmaenpool railway station on the Ruabon to Barmouth line. The line was closed in the 1960s The building was acquired by the adjacent hotel in 1977 and extended for use as guest accommodation. The adjacent railway trackbed is now the Mawddach Trail.
