Fountain for a sulphur spa
Fountain for a sulphur spa
The fountain (re-built in 1964) is the present-day outlet for Gilsland Spa’s famous sulphurous spring water. The local limestone rocks contain iron sulphide - see NY6367 : The River Irthing north of the Gilsland Spa Hotel.

The location of the fountain is shown in NY6367 : Small haugh by the River Irthing and NY6367 : Sulphur spa by the River Irthing.
