Tracks on Carman Muir
As is clear from the picture and from the map, these tracks closely follow the power lines. They were made by vehicles carrying out line refurbishment between Windyhill Substation and Glen Mallan (see NS4276 : New track for access to pylons for more details).

Although it is not very clear in the present picture, the track divides, not far ahead (in front of the nearest pylon), with a section branching off to the right, to meet the southern side of Cardross Road directly opposite the foot of a track to Asker Farm (NS3678 : Start of a track to Asker Farm and Waterworks). It was evidently from that point that vehicles left the road to enter Carman Muir and work on the overhead lines there. However, access to the lines any further south-east than NS37587825 is blocked by an old dry-stone dyke that runs SW-NE through that point.

Access to the lines on the other side of that dyke would have been problematic. As it turned out, a new access road had been created, presumably for this purpose; it heads uphill from the NS3878 : Site of Nether Dalquhurn Farm (see NS3878 : Remains of Nether Dalquhurn Farm). That site is, in turn, accessible from Carman Road, at NS3878 : Upper Dalquhurn Farm Renton, by means of a track: NS3878 : Track to Upper Dalquhurn Farm.

Returning to what is visible in the present photograph: the wooded ridge of Killoeter is in the background, just right of centre. The Firth of Clyde is visible to the left.

Carman Muir (NW) pylon access track :: NS3778

Vehicle tracks made in 2014 during overhead line refurbishment. Carman Muir was entered from the southern side of Cardross Road, at NS36917883, allowing work on the lines from NS36687871 to NS37557824, where a dry-stone dyke blocks the way. Access to the overhead line on the other side of that dyke was by means of a newly-created track leading uphill from the former site of Nether Dalquhurn Farm: see Link for that track.
The line of pylons was originally set up in 1949, linking the area to the Loch Sloy hydroelectric scheme.
