The former Fairy Knowe Quarry
Carman Quarry, at the foot of Carman Hill (NS3779 : Ancient hill-fort on Carman Hill), is wreathed in mist. It was once known as the Fairy Knowe Quarry, after the Fairy Knowe, which used to stand here.
The Fairy Knowe figured in local legend (NS3678 : Carman Quarry), as did the summit of Carman Hill above it: NS3779 : View over ancient hill-fort.

The former Fairy Knowe Quarry :: NS3779
Red sandstone was quarried here. The site was formerly a small hill called Fairy Knowe, but it became a quarry at the end of the nineteenth century; later maps call it Carman Quarry. It has long been disused. See Link
