Another "public art work" - see also NZ2564 : (Part of) Blue Carpet Square and NZ2464 : The Past Is My Present To Your Future. This sculpture, by David Hamilton, was installed in 1985 and commemorates Charles Parsons who developed steam turbines for generating electricity and powering ships - see the Wiki entry LinkExternal link . The designs pressed into the clay are abstracted from Parsons' engineering drawings - for more info see LinkExternal link . The structure is actually more than just an art work: it is a ventilator shaft for the metro station below.
