TQ0457 : The Wey, downstream from Newark Priory

taken 10 years ago, near to Pyrford Village, Surrey, England

The Wey, downstream from Newark Priory
The Wey, downstream from Newark Priory
Photo taken on a chilly but windless day in the fourth week of January. This stretch of the Wey flows through its flood-plain in a number of channels, and the photo shows the point at which the canalised Wey Navigation (entering from the left) is joined by a more natural, meandering channel. The ruins of Newark Priory can be seen some way off, standing in the flood-plain pastures.

The prominent trees - as so often along this river - are alders.
