A Purdey sidelock - by Royal warrant since Victoria
Behold this Purdey shotgun, number 2 of a triple set of Purdeys of the Gordon Cumming family of Altyre. This particular gun was much used by the late Sir William Gordon Cumming Bart.,who was arguably the finest grouse shooter in Great Britain. Manufactured by James Purdey of London, such is the fame of the brand that although a household name the guns are rarely seen in the flesh. For shooting aficionados this gun is 1/2 and full choke with a 30" barrel, the number 1 is 1/4 and 1/2 choke with a 30" barrel whereas the number 3 gun has a 32" barrel and has two double chokes.
