The Romans Were Here
The Romans Were Here
Hadrian’s Wall crossed the Rivers Eden and Caldew on a bridge near here. When the Eden was dredged in 1951, several large building blocks were discovered. These had formed the support for the Roman bridge and are now on view in an enclosure near the river in Bitts Park.
