Freiston Emergency Coastal Defence Battery
The battery was commissioned in May 1940 and armed with two 6-inch breech-loading Mk. VII naval guns complete with anti-strafing measures. As well as the above the complex consisted of A battery observation post (BOP) 300 yards to the north, Two flanking searchlight emplacements, an earth-protected magazine and crew quarters for each gun. The battery continued to be manned up until September 1944 when it was decommissioned. As well as the battery there were, and still are hexagonal and Lincolnshire 3-bay pillboxes along the seabank. The military road is still evident with the track of a narrow gauge light railway still visible in part. see also this link: LinkExternal link
