The notice on the stile reads "This is not a bridle way and there is no intention to dedicate it a such. Please do not ride bikes horses or use motorised vehicles". Understandably there may be reasonable objections to designating such a narrow path adjacent to the farmhouse as a bridleway, but this is the only pinch point on an otherwise broad but muddy track which forms a through route along the south bank of the Tyne linking the Unthank Road with Willimoteswick. It seems a pity that an alternative route round the farm could not be found which would facilitate bridleway status.
