Dumbowie Hill: upper terrace
Dumbowie Hill: upper terrace
The hill has two peaks; this is the south-eastern one, shown from a distance in NS4275 : Dumbowie Hill: south-eastern summit. The present picture is a wide-angle view, designed to show the uppermost terrace (natural or otherwise) on this hill. Above this terrace, the summit itself was the site of NS4275 : Dumbuie Dun.

For the lower terrace, see NS4275 : Dumbowie Hill: lower terrace / NS4275 : Dumbowie Hill: lower terrace.
Dumbowie Hill
The hill originated as a volcanic plug on the edge of the Kilpatrick Hills plateau. The hill has two peaks (NW+SE); the south-eastern one has several terraces on its slopes, and the remains of an Iron Age fort, Dumbuie Dun, on top: see LinkExternal link (at Canmore) for archaeological details.
