TF0627 : The edge of the wood

taken 5 years ago, near to Kirkby Underwood, Lincolnshire, Great Britain

The edge of the wood
The edge of the wood
Looking across a nearly filled land drain into the wood.

In the foreground is a row of adventitious hawthorn that have self-seeded on this side of what was once the ditch. The ditch itself is now a shallow depression, and on the other side are the remains of a laid hedge, now grown tall and vigorous, but with an enormous bole along the edge of the ditch where it was once laid sideways as a 2 inch pole. Beyond is the forestry planting, due for harvest.
