Cannon in the Lower Defence
This area dates from some time after 1725 when General George Wade, Commander-in Chief of North Britain, began refortifying the Castle in anticipation of another Jacobite rebellion against the Hanoverian dynasty. Over the many years I visited the castle in my younger days this area was always off-limits to the public, so all credit to Historic Scotland for finally re-opening it up to view.
