The Pattenmakers Arms, Duffield
A patten is a form of footwear described by the Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers as: 'under-shoes designed to be worn outdoors and to lift the wearers and their shoes and ladies' dresses above the mud and grime of early streets'. Of course, it is a very long time since anybody needed to wear pattens, but the trade is remembered at this Crown Street pub.
