TL6025 : Church of St John and St Giles, Great EastonTL6025 : Church sign: St John & St Giles Church, Great EastonJiles or Giles? The
listed building citation for Great Easton church gives the dedication as "St John and St Jiles" but the church itself (on its own website and notice board) uses the more conventional spelling of the saint's name - Giles - as do most other authorities including the Pevsner guides (1954, revised 1967 and 2007) and Simon Knott's
Essex Churches site. Is there some historic curiosity behind the unusual spelling, or did somebody just make a slip of the finger?
