Caban Coch Dam
Caban Coch Dam
Caban Coch Dam is the lowest of the dams for the Elan Valley Reservoirs, a project undertaken between 1893 and 1904 to provide water to Birmingham. The dam is estimated to contain 112,000 cubic metres of masonry.

This view is looking along the top of the dam. The protruding stones on the face were used to support timber scaffolding holding railway lines used to transport material for the dam's construction.

Grade II* listed - see LinkExternal link.

Below are the pair of hydroelectric power stations and connecting footbridge. One of the power stations contains a 150kW turbine, the other a 800kW turbine; they are operated when the reservoirs are full, utilising the overspill to generate power.

The buildings and the bridge are all grade II listed - see LinkExternal link LinkExternal link and LinkExternal link.
