This is the higher - southern - end of the wood, as it appeared on an afternoon in February. Earlier in their lives the great oaks were regularly pollarded at a height of maybe 10 or 15 feet - but have put on a couple of centuries' growth since then.

Richmond Park is a National Nature Reserve.
