Queen's Walk story poles :: SK5638

This is a series of 12 sculptures created from the lime trees felled as part of the development of the tramway along Queen's Walk. They are themed around the activities and communities past and present in the immediate neighbourhood.

From north to south, the poles have the following themes:

1. Welcome: Drawings by primary school children and disabled teenagers. (This is located at the north end of Arkwright Walk, at the point where the tramway enters the . Meadows, rather than on Queens Walk itself.)

2. Queen Victoria: A carving of the young queen, who visited in Nottingham in 1843.

3. Youth: A street scene and footprints by youth club members.

4. Green: Inspired by Thomas Hawksley’s Trent Waterworks, which first provided safe water for the city.

5. Sport: Children’s drawings depicting sporting heritage.

6. Friendship: A handshake.

7. Faith: A candle and six icons of different faiths.

8. Industry: Heritage depicted by Meadows History Group.

9. Old Meadows: Film strip with old images.

10. Transport: Trains, buses, trams and bikes depicting past and present transport.

11. Armed Forces: The Royal British Legion’s lion, with images of veteran residents.

12. River: The Trent winds around the pole.
