Memorial to a former minister, Horncliffe
Memorial to a former minister, Horncliffe
The memorial to Rev. Peter Valence is mounted in a wall beside the former parish church. I'm guessing the plaque was inside the church before its de-consecration and conversion into a dwelling and has been moved to this location so it remains in a public place.

The text on the memorial reads:
SACRED TO THE MEMORY
OF THE
REV. PETER VALENCE
WHO DIED DEC 6TH 1898 AGED 72.
HE WAS 40 YEARS MINISTER OF HORNCLIFFE
AND THIS TABLET IS CREATED AS A MARK
OF LOVE AND RESPECT. HE WAS THE FATHER
AND FRIEND OF HIS PEOPLE AND AN ABLE
MINISTER OF THE WORD.

HE RESTS FROM HIS LABOURS AND HIS
WORKS SO FOLLOW HIM.
