Corporation of London arms in Bradford
One of four crests on the colonnade at the original entrance Forster Square station, now somewhat eroded, this one is the arms of the City and Corporation of London with its motto Domine Dirige Nos TQ3280 : Domine Dirige Nos. Its presence here represents the Midland Railway linking London with northern cities including Bradford. SE1633 : Colonnade of the Midland Hotel, Bradford.
Bradford Forster Square station
The original northern station in Bradford was built in the 1840s and by 1853 was owned by the Midland Railway and called Market street; from 1924 it took the name Forster Square. In 1990 this ornate station was replaced by a smaller, simpler one of the same name a few hundred metres further north (i.e. away from the city centre). Services from Leeds and Skipton were electrified in 1994, and improved with new rolling stock and more frequent services when Leeds central station was rebuilt in 2001.
