Battle site, Glen Shiel
The sign by the A87 commemorates the site of a battle in 1719 between an army of Jacobites and Spanish soldiers against Government troops. The former were overcome by the tactics and weaponry, fatalities numbering 100 on the Jacobite side and 20 British Government troops. (From the nearby information board).

In the background is the steep snow-covered ridge of Faochag.
