Chenies Manor is the original ancestral home of the Russell family who became the Dukes of Bedford and moved to the more palatial Woburn Abbey. The original owner (and builder) of the manor however was Sir John Cheyne from whom the village (and manor) gets its name.
Although the Dukes of Bedford relocated to Woburn, the family are still interred in the magnificent mausoleum attached to Chenies Church - Note: While the church is regularly open to the public, the mausoleum which is the private property of the Russell family, is not.
Chenies Manor, is, not surprisingly EH Grade I listed Link
It is open to the public Wednesday and Thursday during the summer - for more details, see their own website here Link
