North-bound traffic driving onto the Transporter Bridge
The gondola can take nine average-sized cars. Only eight transporter bridges survive world-wide, of which six still work. This is the only working transporter bridge in England. In March 2015 it re-opened after extensive remedial works. The bows of the dredger Heortnesse can just be seen beyond the cars, as the ship passes through the bridge.
