Disused quarry
And I wouldn't have known it had ever been a quarry - but that's what it says on the map.
A footpath / mountain bike trail goes around it, part of the Deadwater Trail, but we found it doesn't lead anywhere (or maybe we missed another path). The Trail is divided into named sections, here we are at All Along the Watchtower.
Deadwater Trail, Kielder Castle

There are several Mountain Bike trails that start (and end) at Kielder Castle and run through the forest. The Deadwater Trail has 2 sections. The red section is described as "difficult and suitable only for proficient mountain bikers" and the black section is "Severe and only suitable for expert mountain bikers. It is a highly technical trail that includes epic climbing and thrilling descending." You'll also find walkers upon it.
