Marks & Spencer's Original Penny Bazaar, Grainger Market
The market, built in 1835 by John Dobson for Richard Grainger, is around 330 ft by 240 ft, enclosing about two acres. There are five longitudinal avenues of shops and four transverse ones, 14 entrances, and over 360 upper windows that light the avenues. In the 1840s, there were 188 shops in the avenues and 55 units in the vegetable market. The building is Grade I listed Link
