It took 53 years for the Bluebell Railway to achieve this: the connection to the national network. On the left of the big picture we see the Bluebell's platform at East Grinstead. On the right a Southern Railway train is waiting to head back up to London. Note the "end of conductor rail" sign in the foreground.

In the close-up immediately beyond the gates with the red circle are catch points. If an errant train on the national network were to crash through the gates, these points would derail it before it could get to the main Bluebell track. Apparently Network Rail are not worried about Bluebell trains straying on to their patch!

When a legitimate train movement is to be made the catch points are moved from the a ground frame probably the one visible in the background behind the left gatepost. TQ3837 : Arriving at East Grinstead shows two ground frames both of which seem to have rodding heading towards the catch points.
