Pines on the western edge of Foxbury Plantation
The National Trust bought Foxbury Plantation in 2005 and plans to create a 'mosaic of semi-natural habitats' once the conifer trees (planted shortly after the Second World War) have been harvested. The trees in this photo will cleared during phase 1 of the felling and the ground beneath will eventually be 'dry heath' to blend in with the dry heath on the other side of the fence. Eventually the fence will be removed and commoner's stock will be able to graze the new heathland. This scene should be very different in 10 years' time.
