View eastward from North Lane bridge, towards Colchester (and Clacton), Ipswich and Norwich on the ex-GE main line from London (Liverpool Street)- long before electrification. The locomotive is Thompson B2 two-cylinder rebuild of Gresley 'Sandringham' three-cylinder 4-6-0 No. 61644 'Earlham Hall': built 5/35 as B17/1 No. 2844, becoming 1946 No. 1644, then rebuilt as BR No. 61644 in 3/49 and surviving until 11/59. (A short Down train is receding in the distance).
