Upturned boat sheds, Lindisfarne Castle
Upturned boats used as storage sheds have long been a feature of Holy Island and for many years three such sheds have stood outside the National Trust's Lindisfarne Castle. In 2005 two of the sheds were destroyed by fire. A suitable replacement boat was found at Leith, cut in two and brought to Holy Island in 2007. The other shed - the stern half of a 19th century herring drifter - was restored by the Trust.
