89-107 Clayton Street, NE1
Built c 1837, probably by John Wardle, for Richard Grainger. A long section of 10 houses (30 bays) in the plain style of Clayton Street. The whole length was built just one room deep, with no rear windows. This was because John Clayton owned a house and garden on this site; he released only a thin strip of land on the edge of the garden, and insisted that the buildings should not have windows that overlooked his property. An Art Deco ornament was added in 1939 to no.107, the building on the Clayton Street/Fenkle Street corner NZ2464 : Art Deco ornament on 107 Clayton Street, NE1. The buildings are Grade II listed Link
