The sign on the left warned of forestry operations on the next section of the Deadwater Trail. Moving on a little, the sign hidden behind branches told us that section was closed NY6295 : Closed section - Deadwater Trail, Kielder Castle The sign on the right is an information board about the trail.
Deadwater Trail, Kielder Castle
There are several Mountain Bike trails that start (and end) at Kielder Castle and run through the forest. The Deadwater Trail has 2 sections. The red section is described as "difficult and suitable only for proficient mountain bikers" and the black section is "Severe and only suitable for expert mountain bikers. It is a highly technical trail that includes epic climbing and thrilling descending." You'll also find walkers upon it.
