The Watersmeet Road building is on a bank of the East Lyn River. The coastguards are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year (including Christmas Day). Because of the hilly nature of the Lynmouth area, pagers were found to be ineffective, so this is one of the few coastguards in the country to still use maroons (detonating fireworks) to alert team members and the community to a call-out.
