Inside the Great Conservatory at Syon House
The Great Conservatory at Syon House was built between 1820 and 1827 by the Third Duke of Northumberland to a design by Charles Fowler, whose other work included Covent Garden Market. This was one of England’s great conservatories, and it was studied by Joseph Paxton for his design for the Crystal Palace. It was extensively restored in 1987.
