Rhyl Flats Wind Farm
Rhyl Flats Offshore Wind Farm is a 25-turbine wind farm located on the eastern end of the Constable Bank between Abergele and Rhos-on-Sea, approximately 5 miles (8 kilometres) off the coast of North Wales. Offshore construction work began in July 2007 and the completed project was officially opened on 2 December 2009.
Rhyl Flats is Wales' second offshore wind farm and the third offshore wind farm to be built within Liverpool Bay. It is currently the largest operating renewable energy scheme in Wales and one of the most powerful offshore wind farms in the UK. It has 25 Siemens Wind Power SWT-107-3.6 wind turbines, each rated at 3.6 MW capacity, giving it a maximum rated output of 90 MW.
The area of the wind farm is approximately 3.9 square miles (approximately 10 km²). This photograph was taken from Rhos Point, which is the closest point on shore, 5 miles (approximately 8 km) from the nearest turbine.
