The cottages date from C17. See LinkExternal link for entry in British Listed Buildings. An excavation on this site in 1933 revealed the foundations of a much earlier house believed to be that of Sir John Thimbleby, one of the leaders of the Pilgrimage of Grace against Henry VIII.

The church was formerly part of the Augustinian priory here. There are some C12 parts but much dates from C15. Saxon arches were discovered on the site which suggests a much earlier church may have existed here.
