Blackbird (Female)
Blackbird (Female)
The common blackbird (Turdus merula) is a species of true thrush which breeds in Europe, Asia, and North Africa. In the UK, blackbirds are resident and amongst (if not the) most common garden birds with their mellow song providing pleasant background sounds during the summer months. The males live up to their name but, confusingly, females are brown often with spots and streaks on their breasts.

This female is perched in a Mock Orange (Philadelphus) bush.
