Disused railway viaduct, Carlisle
Disused railway viaduct, Carlisle
This railway viaduct used to carry trains on the "Waverley route" across the River Eden at Carlisle. The trains crossing the viaduct ran from Carlisle to Edinburgh through the Scottish Lowlands.

The viaduct is currently closed, but there is a local campaign to make it safe and reopen it for pedestrians: LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )

The path in the foreground is part of the Hadrian's Wall Path, and also part of the Hadrian Cycleway.
River Eden (Cumbria)

The River Eden rises high in the North Pennines and flows 90 miles northwards to meet the Solway Firth. The lower part of its valley is called the Vale of Eden.
