In July 1307, Edward I was camped on Burgh Marsh preparing to cross the Solway and hammer some Scots, when he took ill and died. He was 68 years old.
This statue was erected to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the king's death. It was a gift to the village from Story Construction, the sculpture is by Christopher Kelly.
