Bourn Postmill - Governor
Bourn Postmill - Governor
A mid 18th century addition to the mill is this iron governor. This device maintains the distance between the stones and hence helps produce a consistent product.

One of the oldest mills in the country with the first record dating back to 1636. Bourn is a two storey open trestle post mill that can be rotated by hand. Note the presence of two common sails and two spring sails. The mill was raised in the mid 19th century to increase the capacity to catch wind.
