Buttercups and Meadow Foxtail Grass in old unimproved grassland, Priory Park, Warwick
Meadow Foxtail is one of the earliest grasses to flower. These flower spikes are silvery grey and going over but in their prime there is a suggestion of a fox's brush, the stamens being of a rich rusty-orange colour. In a botanical survey around 2000 the presence of species such as pignut and sweet vernal grass indicated a precious survival of flower-rich grassland.
