There has been a "Half Moon" building on this site since 1550. The current one is by Simpson, Lawson and Rayne, the architects responsible for Emerson Chambers in Blackett Street Link . It's in Art Nouveau style, and was built in 1902-05 for Arrol's of Alloa (Brewers). There are witches' hat dormers NZ2464 : Half Moon Chambers, Bigg Market, NE1 (detail), a decorative central gable NZ2464 : Half Moon Chambers, Bigg Market, NE1 (detail), carved columns and pilasters, stone sills and window heads, iron balconies decorated with half moon symbols NZ2464 : Half Moon Chambers, Bigg Market, NE1 (detail), and an original ground floor (excpt for the right hand shop front).
