Built 1862-3, by J E Watson for the Newcastle Savings Bank, in fairly pure classical style. The sandstone blocks of the ground floor have pronounced vertical and horizontal joints, and the first floor (which is the same height as the ground floor) has three-bay central pavilions with regular columns and pilasters and a triangular pediment - see NZ2464 : Former Trustee Savings Bank, 19-25 Grainger Street, NE1 (detail).
