The County Hotel, Neville Street, NE1
See NZ2463 : The County Hotel, Grainger Street, NE1 and NZ2463 : The County Hotel, Grainger Street / Westgate Road, NE1. Johnstone's original County Hotel stretched down to Neville Street and returned along the street to an entrance facing the station. In 1897, the owners wanted to extend the hotel further along Neville Street. They demolished all of Johnstone's Neville Street frontage and built what is shown in the photo above. There is a central main door under a deep bay accentuated by columns and a skyline pediment, with three double bays on each side; the rounded, full height, corner bays are topped with a copper dome above a decorated stone drum. The building is Grade II listed Link
