Eccleston Mere
Eccleston Mere
View from the South shore looking North with the island to the left. The Mere was constructed about 1820 by damming up a stream flowing through the valley. The water from the reservoir was used for topping up the canal system in St.Helens and district to enable barges and flats to continue their trade.
