TF0920 : Gone

taken 6 years ago, near to Bourne, Lincolnshire, Great Britain

Swathed in brown paper and with the signage already taken down the shop in TF0920 : End of an Era awaits conversion. Scuttlebutt is that it has been bought by the Wetherspoons pub chain, who have yet to apply for permission to convert it.
Town centres in 2008-2021

Town centres in the UK are constantly evolving, many shops come and go and sadly many well known names are disappearing from the high street altogether. These images, I hope, will act as an historic record of how tough times have been and who came and went and who thrived.

More recent images could also reflect the impact of the post Brexit vote along with images that may also be showing the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic which started to be visible in town centre trading from about June 2020 onwards. In the early months of the pandemic businesses were forced to close during the government 'lockdown' which was announced 23 March 2020 and came into effect on 26 March 2020. Not all subsequently reopened.

Founded in 1979 by Tim Martin, Wetherspoon is a large chain of pubs with over 1000 pubs [2018] around the UK, run by JD Wetherspoon plc.

Unlike other large chains, Wetherspoon do not operate their own brewery.

Wetherspoon are known for not playing any music.

According to the company website, the name Wetherspoon came from one of Martin's teachers in New Zealand, while the initials are those of Sheriff J D Hogg from 'The Dukes of Hazzard' TV series.

Wetherspoon also run Lloyd's N 1 Bars which play music.
